INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009) Weekly Pick + Review

Inglourious Basterds (2009) posterInglourious Basterds (2009)

Full Metal Kill Bill with some pithy Pulp Fiction tucked in it's trousers. And some smirking Brad Pitt as a 1944 Rico Suave to boot. And speaking of boots...lot's of boots. Yet, very little of the "knocking of boots." QT seems to shy away from those scenes a bit even though Nazi occupied France was probably even more sexed than normal.

DISTRICT 9 (2009) Weekly Pick + Review

District 9 (2009) posterDistrict 9 (2009)

Twenty plus years after man has met his first alien, he still can't get rid of the stink. You may have come here in a broken down space van, but for gawd's sake, take a shower already! And move that jalopy out of my sun path! You're blocking my weeds from growing with your hover-shadow shite!

JULIE & JULIA (2009) Weekly Pick + Review

Julie & Julia (2009) PosterJulie & Julia (2009)

It's Nora Ephron! It's Amy Adams! It's Meryl Streep!

Very good master of the obvious, action junkie 35 year-old kiddie - you have described the movie's "chick lineage" accurately and succinctly. Now go back to your buffo wings and let the adults talk.

FUNNY PEOPLE (2009) Weekly Pick + Review

Funny People (2009) posterFunny People (2009)

Ya know, what I really want to do is direct...you...to Adam, but it's only in 4 theaters to start due to some intern at Fox Searchlight who thought there were only 300 people in the US. M stands for million, not monkeys...well, maybe it could stand for monkeys in this case, but all in all, love the decimal buddy...be...the decimal.

SHRINK (2009) Weekly Pick + Review

SHRINK (2009) posterShrink (2009)

What happens when a screenwriter is left alone in Santa Monica, without a car, a cell phone or cash? Shrink happens. Shrink your expectations and sit a spell. That same screenwriter, Thomas Moffett, that wrote Frost (2008) with Steve Clark (writer and director). Now, you have to know, Frost was pretty good. Just how much Moffett wrote vs. Clark is unknown, but I don't think Clark directed it out of the park. It's kind of a Metropolitan meets Eyes Wide Shut depressive New York love triangle talking head indie superficial heart squeezer. It also starred the late and lovely Lucy Gordon (Paris, July 20th, 2009, suicide).
